Long Beach and Los Angeles? What poppycock! Those are cities built for cars, not pedestrians. I favour the French Quarter of New Orleans or South Beach in Miami? Two other obvious choices are Savannah, Georgia and Charleston, South Carolina.

I went to Charleston a few years ago on a day trip. We had a great time. The city is quite beautiful. We ate at Magnolias and enjoyed it very much. The only downside is that we didn't get to stay longer.
