I'd like to choose Boston. I think it is the combination of both modern and history. I like its architecture, the famous college sightseeing, the beautiful leaves in autumn, etc. I love Boston.

... want to break it up, why not put your Boston part of the trip in the middle? You could rent a car for the Jackson/Kennebunk part of the trip, then stay for a while in Boston and rent another car for the Martha's Vineyard part. Does that make sense?
