What to see on a short trip?

... from Kanchanaburi to Pak Chong directly without going back through Bangkok? Can anyone recommend a good guide for Khao Yai? Or accommodation there which does tours? What would be a nice relaxing place to stay in Kanchanaburi? Thanks for all your help.

... question. If you're talking about going direct and keeping clear of Bangkok I can't see why not. I actually can't remember if I took the bus or train but I went from Kanchanaburi to Damnoen Saduak and back to Kanchanaburi in the same day..

... a couple of years, but friends who have suggest it has become pretty commercialised and basically your hell. I reckon a trip out to Kanchanaburi would do the thing for you. Maybe sleep a night on a river boat. Definitely see some of the waterfalls. ...

Hmmm, unless you rent a car, looks like you will have to go to Bangkok... Wikitravel says that you can get there by bus from a few places, but not in the area you want to go there from... TripAdvisor recommends leaving from Bangkok as well.

Has anyone taken the train/ bus from Damnoen Saduak to Kanchanaburi in the same day? I would prefer to stay as far away from Bangkok as possible, but was wondering if this is even doable? Any advice?

The old town of perhaps? Its quite close and sounds like it would make for a good day out. Or for a couple of days to do some outdoorsie stuff. I recommend Kanchanaburi aswell!

I'm reading The Dice Man as it was recommended to me by an ex-pat I met whilst in Kanchanaburi, Thailand. That was a year ago and I've only just picked up a copy, so by this rate I'll have it finished by 2010
