Taiwan - who knew?

... I have yet to see it myself. Although Taipei may seem like a city that, like Seoul in Korea, is an industrialized sprawl, it is definitely a modern metropolis that deserves a visit. Fortunately, rural of Taiwan still has much unspoiled scenery to offer.

hi, if you want to eat something special or delicious, i think that Taiwan's night-market is your best choice. you can eat most of the Taiwan's delicious food there. And don't forget to try o-a-zen(a kind of oyster dish), and stinky tofu.

Very helpful! thanks for the last two posts, some great information there. Did anyone notice that February for the Lonely Planet features all Taiwan pics? I have the calendar and it certainly whet my appetite for Taiwan.

... issue. As China is being more and more included on backpacker's itineraries and to travel directly to or from Taiwan from China is not possible, most people prefer to use Hong Kong as a springboard into NE Asia. Taiwan kind of gets missed out.

... with China have much to do with why backpackers don't go there. I think there are a lot more dodgy places that travellers go without regard to the state's international relations. Maybe Taiwan just needs to do a better job talking itself up.

The seafood in Taiwan is some of the best I have ever tasted! Displayed live on a bed of ice outside the restaurants and on your plate within minutes! Amazing and very cheap. You should try to learn some Mandarin as English isn't widely spoken ...
