... do visa runs from Dubai. I would suggest hiring a 4WD (check out hiring from Dubai and ensure that insurance covers you taking the car into Oman). Petrol is really cheap here. Any information I grab while there in July I will post on here under Oman.

Muscat is just a name for official capital of Oman, but the real Muscat is only a small part of the city. The municipality is sandwiched between sea and mountains, and to drive from one part of it to another is very scenically dramatic.

Israel will stamp on a seperate piece of paper. However, if you have an exit or entry stamp from a land border crossing into or out of Israel you will be refused entry into many of the Islamic countries (Kuwait, UAE, Saudi, Oman, Syria etc).
