... telling the difference since it was hot. 40 vs 45 has no real bearing on me to tell the difference, in the desert at least.. I have a picture of a sign in Aqaba, Jordan that said 40°C at sunset. I know for a fact that we hit 43 a few days in Aswan.

... and . So, you could just do all that but in reverse. The route is not all that difficult, it kind of looks after itself once you are in Syria and Jordan because most of the good places are towards the western side of those countries. Hope this helps.
