Yes I've seen the pics of Hiroshima - actually those make me feel very sad. It still shocks me how much devastation and pain was caused in one fell swoop. I thinks the Atomic Dome is a must visit for anybody interested in this kind of history. ...

Japanese Rail Pass - value for money?

I had a 7 day pass and abused it royally I went from Tokyo to Fukuoka in a day! Then spent the rest of the week making my way back to Tokyo via Hiroshima, Miyajima, Himeji, and Kyoto. Was a bargain for the travelling I managed to do.

... for a month then get a rail pass. They are pretty cheap and allow unlimited travel on all but the fastest bullet train. I had a 1 week pass and went from Tokyo to Fukuoka, Hiroshima, Himeji and Kyoto which would have cost loads more without the pass.
