... one of the most interesting and lively cities in Colombia. It's on the Caribbean, so it has a different tempo from the highlands. It has never had a drug/cartel problem, so it's safe in that respect. Cartagena is 400 miles from Bogotá.

... , so you just have to jump on. Plus most of the big sights are only 2-4 hours journey. If you are planning to go overland the whole way then you'll have to look for a boat in Panama that'll take you to Cartagena, Colombia as there is no road.
