Well, if you type "Beijing Lhasa train" in the search box on the homepage, you could find some train experiences in China. They are remarkably well written and I think you will get a good feel for the trip. Here are some interesting ones.

We are 5 people having booked 2 land cruisers to leave Lhasa on 27 September travelling to Nepal border via Everest Base Camp over 7 days. We are looking for up to another 3 passengers to reduce the cost

Yup, all over the Chinese TV news, with interviews with the latest western tourist to visit Lhasa. Tibet is open as of last week!!! Groups are allowed, more difficult for individuals not on tours
