Day trips to Tikal are usually offered from San Ignacio in the Belize highlands close to the Guatemalan border. To my knowledge there are no tours from Ambergris or Caye Caulker. If I were you I'd bone up on these travel blogs from :

fly or bus to belize city from corozol. then rent a car or catch a bus to san ignacio. its such a tiny country it only a hour or two on road .

We are staying in San Ignacio and renting a car. Is it possible to drive to Barton Creek and hire a guide there. We would then like to go to Big Rock Falls. Is this doable in a day and where would we be able to find good directions? Thanks!

Why don't you look at a two centre stay. for the beach and diving, and for the forest and Maya archaeological sites.
