I've been missing Magnetic Island this past few days and want to go there and go nature tripping. Also I miss Kangaroo Island where we have this trip to kick one of the kangaroos there when we're young.

I can definitely second these recommendations! Fraser Island and the Whitsundays are absolutely must sees. Magnetic Island is also absolutely beautiful and has lots of walks/wildlife there. As for the Barrier Reef, the visibility was a bit poor ...

Townsville is kitsch! But you're right, I don't think Cairns is anything special either. Magnetic Island on the other hand is stunning - if you were going to Townsville then I'd suggest spending most of your time there, otherwise Cairns ...
