... does the job though if you want to splash around in the sun. On the other hand Brisie has the Gold Coast near by, which is ace for kids, but at that time of year, chilly...and probably a bit deserted. Australia Zoo is near by, that's cool for kids.

Townsville is kitsch! But you're right, I don't think Cairns is anything special either. Magnetic Island on the other hand is stunning - if you were going to Townsville then I'd suggest spending most of your time there, otherwise Cairns ...
