... passes. You could probably get a pass from Cairns to Melbourne for a couple of hundred dollars. I paid for 1 journey from Cairns to Airlie Beach and it came to $111! Bus passes are cheaper! Even with fruit picking they ask for your tax file ...

If you are trying to find the "ozzie" experience then the East Coast (Brisbane/Gold Coast/Fraser Isl/Airlie Beach etc) is not the place to go. I reckon you could go the whole 2 weeks there without meeting a single local as there are so many ...

Lee, I thought as much. Do you think it is worth baseing ourselves at Airlie Beach and doing day trips from there, or go the whole hog and stay on one of the islands for 6 days? Thanks Mark
