I have a friend who toured South America and talked about her proximity to the South Pole from the bottom tip of Chile. You're definitely getting close that far south!

Hmmm tough one... I think South America would be definately the easiest way to get the closest to the south pole. Not sure how Greenland is but backpacking there sounds challenging. The LonelyPlanet web site has some sweet pics though.

i wonder why this thread is a bit slow? anyway i found out how you can get to the south pole through it sounds like alot of fun but i think i'll leave it until i have got too much money with that kind of price tag
