      Canterbury Tales Wyndham Style

We were greeted by a friendly bellhop who arranged for our car to be parked by a valet and help us unload our luggage. The gal at the front desk was just aa friendly, she apologized that our room wasn't quite ready, but should be available in about 30 minutes. This room would allow us to have connecting rooms tomorrow night, so the extra wait will be worth it. She even offered to check us in for the 2nd room for tomorrow for our exchange daughter's family. We will only need to go down and get the key cards.

Suzanne at the Wyndham Resorts Guest Services was also extremely friendly and helpful. She booked us for a free luncheon tomorrow to include our Exchange daughters, we will even get a voucher for free parking ( 3 days) a savings of over $108.00 plus the cost of lunch. We will be listening to a presentation, and we were promised we would not have any upgrading sales, just information about a new free program starting next year. A call from the front desk to confirm our satisfaction with our room is making this stay memorable. We even got a card under our door from suzanne confirming some things we talked about earlier and wishing us a grand visit. Not sure what else they could do to make us feel welcomed.

This was the first of our RCI bookings, and wow, what a treat. Camping 1 star background, 3 star expectations, and 5 star rooms. We were going to use the full week and soak up the luxury in this great city.

Started out about 9:30 AM for our 3 hour drive from Reno to San Francisco. It took us 5 hours due to traffic. Frayed nerves was the name of the game today. We got here - unpacked (it took 2 carts) and we started putting things in places. We probably won't find anything when time to leave but thats 7 days from now.

Walked through here and around San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, the Hyde Street Pier to the cable car stop. Waited ages for an available car, finally onboard then hot stopped by police, lost our "grab" and had to be pushed by ...

I loved listening to actual ex-prisoners talk on the audio guide, seeing the cells where they lived, the dining hall, hospital wing - very sobering. The girls had had enough by about 1PM so they took the ferry back to the city while Dad and I checked out the Ai Weiwei art exhibition. He is a famous Chinese artist who is being persecuted for speaking out against the ...

... spot. We ended up doing a hiking trail about 3 miles away from the woods. This ended up being awesome as it was wayyyyy more peaceful & we had a mix of environments along the way; red wood, rain forest even a sandy grassy section where I thought I was going to end up at a back beach at home. Huge walk / hike and Jordan blazed the trail for the entire trip?! Who is this child in the Gilligan hat? Lots of ...

... the stories of escape, including tales of drilling with spoons and using homemade mannequin heads and also the audio tour section explaining the dining room riot over spaghetti. Overall, I feel more educated about Alcatraz and the experience was fantastic, I recommend it to everyone!

PS: Don't miss the 6:30 ferry; Alcatraz may be a tad scarier in the dark, on your own, with no escape......
