Groundhog Easter

... read through it much less commit it to memory. I watched a movie late night and called home to wish them a happy Easter before heading to bed. Today was Easter day two. Since we are going to be crossing the international dateline soon, we actually relive one day on the ship. They decided to repeat April 12th which just happens to be Easter and I am pretty excited that no only I can say that I have lived the ...

Yokohama, a Fishing village and Tokyo

... and hung out for the day. We walked through this park and saw some awesome street entertainment. We saw the next up and coming superhero, a group of middle aged men dancing to the American rock and roll of the 50's and 60's. Their hairdos were insane. We saw groups of teenagers who dress up as Japanese animated characters. I guess it is similar to the Trekkie's of the USA. We went to a festival near the ...

The lost shoe

So you must be wondering why this entry is called the lost shoe. Well it's an interesting story actually but I shall start at the beginning. On Sat, we went to go and help out with the children's church. I was actually a little nervous because this was our first time actually interacting with a big group and our first time interacting with kids here in Japan. I mean I have experience with kids in back at home but I thought this is differet....."it's japan!" haha. Well it ...

... to be but that's what they looked like), and made our way to the train station where Kumi would exit our lives once again. We slurped noodles at another noodle house in the station, then said goodbye to Kumi. The two of us hugged and she and Katsushi bowed the way you bow to your partner before you do si do. Katsushi and I drove back to his apartment in Chiba were I didn't have the best sleep in the world. I woke up once again to an earth quake, then to a mosque nearby and its wailing ...

It was 20 years ago today...

... that my best friend, Masataka, was absent. Little wonder, he moved to Nagoya, in Year 7. We lost contact. But if I wanted to meet one classmate from my primary school, it would be none other than him. But somewhere I was yearning for contact and for filling the twenty-year gap. But I was too shy to initiate contact, and too tired to recount what I had done in the intervening years. Too facile to dish out L. P ...

Last day in Sendai Trip to Tokyo

... Japanese with Latin letters for those foreigners that have yet mastered native script, and it is also used for computer input. And all we need to learn is 26 letters. We arrived in Tokyo about 1 and ½ hours later, and after fending the crowds in Tokyo station, found where to exit the station to walk to our hotel, which was almost across the street. Japanese sidewalks all have yellow 30 cm wide textured tracks of bumps along their full length, to help the ...

Lots of News

... decided, after a long time of consideration, to have a baby. Junya had to go to the airport to collect our baby as he was coming from another part of Japan. So, as you've guessed, we had a dog. He's the cutest wee thing ever. He's a Shiba ken or in English Shiba Inu. We named him Yamato, which is the old name for Japan. Transalted it means "Big Peace". He's 2 months old but has a slight biting problem. He was quickly ...

In Bloom

... s a temple there with lots of plum trees near where I was headed), but the rain changed my plans. Still, on the way home from the subway station, I took the path along the river where the cherry trees are beginning to bloom and the plum trees are now losing their flowers. There weren't too many people about and everything seemed muted, the rain falling in steady drops through the cool air.

... it was funny watching a couple of them waddle around not being able to stand up. I mean I'm a good guy and all, but I'm not babysitting anyone (besides, it was much more fun for us to toy with them). I'm sure everyone made it back okay anyways, not that I stayed to find out. The next day I was booked for the SAS trip to Hiroshima (5 hour bus-ride away), where I got to see the blast site (ground zero) where the A-Bomb went off in WWI. It was a nice perspective seeing both sides (here ...

Yamato Nishi Graduation

... It was interesting that the students didn't individually receive their diploma from the Principal. Instead, the students' names were called off and the students stood up by their seats and then a class representative went up to receive the diplomas from the Principal. And when the class representative bowed so did the rest of the class. After ...
