We went to hot water beach that evening to try and experience the hot water you can dig up at low tide. You hire a spade and 2 hours either side of low tide find a spot, dig a hole and sit in your own mini spa.     ... the city and some of the outer areas. Augmented by a self-directed walking tour, we covered some good ground. No strip malls, no major high rises outside the core, and every neighbourhood seems to have a main street made up of vintage homes converted to restaurants, boutiques and markets. Charming.

    ... of the food is superb in Auckland, we haven't had a bad meal yet. The price tags however match it, with most meals costing a small fortune. We hope the $28 burger type price tags will come down to a more affordable price when we leave the metropolis of Auckland behind us. Thankfully beer and wine prices are closer to what we are used to, with $8 being the average for the house wine and beer specials of the day.

    ... in the room before setting off on a walk to the Auckland War Memorial Museum. The walk there was lovely, with plenty of steps and green paths to let Lotte loose on, and the building itself was beautiful, set in gorgeous surroundings.
