Bankside is located a couple of blocks from Queens Street shopping and Britomart. The room was clean and the kitchen had the necessary supplies except a frying pan.
All rooms have a small balcony. We were on the 4th floor and had a view of the neighboring businesses. No complaints. I didn't request a great view. Manager was cordial and willing to help.

Went for a big walk in the morning and early afternoon. I woke early, had breakfast (made myself in the kitchen) and left around 08:30. I walked towards Queen St then down and across to Auckland Domain, a large park. Stayed there for a while then walked to the docks, along to the bottom of Queen St then back via the supermarket. I chatted to a girl in the afternoon (Annette from Switzerland), made dinner and had a couple of beers and chatted to three Americans before ...

... off to exotic islands, such as Tiritiri Matangi, full of regenerated bush as well as rare and special bird species (oh yes, I was a geek going birdwatching AND I loved it) and also Waiheke Island, much larger and home to many a vineyard, great beaches (even in my books) and superb views of Rangitoto volcano and Auckland city centre. I absolutely adored Waiheke Island and only wished we could have spent longer than a day here... Anne kindly treated me to lunch and then ...

... helped us tap into Chen's circle of friends. So, we now enter our second week. We hope to have access to our things on Tuesday and no doubt get excited about seeing things like socks again. I'm on the lookout to buy a car to give us more flexibility. As is usual with me, an old banger will do. The agencies now have our CV's so we just sit tight and wait and enjoy the Summer and the fact that we will not experience a Winter this year :-) More to come in due ...

At the moment Paul and I are relaxed and not getting ready at all for our Grand Tour, other than having let the house to a Russian Doctor (neither Russian nor doctor, our estate agent was a bit confused) for 1 November and trying to get the chicken to sleep in a different place. Fourteen years of habit and only two brain cells do not make for easy ...
