      11/12 At sea

Yesterday I fell asleep at 3 and didn’t wake until 7pm. Thus I was not surprised when I woke up at 1:15, thinking it must be 5am. I read a couple of chapters of my novel about a Venice policeman and fortunately fell asleep until 7am. For the first time in months there were no dark circles under my eyes this ...

Ed is feeling better and so am I. We awoke to an amazing sunrise which looked like a volcano erupting. We eventually figured out that we weren’t even looking at Sicily, that we were facing the Toe of Italy. Naples had a cold biting wind which Messina doesn’t have. Our ship stood by until the Italian coast guard arrived and took them all aboard leaving the small boat behind. We were on our way again just after 10 ...

We arrived in Corfu in quite heavy rain. We had organized a hire car for €43 which was very reasonable, and decided we would continue on with our plans. We drove to Paleokastritsa Bay which would have been beautiful on a nice day with a very rugged coastline and beaches. There was a monastery that we walked to with raincoats and umbrellas and viewed the inside of the church. Greek churches have flat ceilings and are decorated ...

... and we weren’t wrong, generally though they weren’t as bad as you could have imagined. The scenery helped with all the colourful houses and impressive mountains.

We decided to go on an excursion from our camp ground into the mountains of Thethi. We had an extremely bumpy ride up and down with a hilarious driver freaking out other passengers telling them how high up we were and reminding them they ...
