Great Place - So much to do and see
We stayed the week of June 10th and what a great place! I was delighted by our week at the Visitina. I could live here year round.
The rooms you check in on Friday and Sunday face the ocean and you think the waves are coming in your door. The patio is very large. The sun rise is breath taking. The only negatives about the rooms were one shower in common bath while master bedroom had bath and 1 bay sink in the kitchen not 2 bays. It made it a little harder to wash dishes.
The pool was great with plenty of spaceand shade in the afternoon. There were a lot of programs for the kids. The beach was an Atlantic beach not as soft as gulf beaches but you could not find all the shells on the gulf beaches that we found here.
Locally, there are so many great resturants, plenty of shopping, deep sea fishing (son caught a shark), etc and all with in 15 minutes. Great Vacation!
Definitely not yikes!!!!!!!
We also stayed around memorial day weekend, and couldn't have been happier. We didn't want to leave! We were in the ocean facing building with a large balcony facing the ocean. The room was wonderful, clean and not shabby at all. The staff was friendly and helpful and were working daily to replant beautiful plants and flowers around the hotel damaged by the hurricane. My kids also enjoyed daily activites that were posted the night before (very helpful). The beach was beautiful and not crowded at all! I recommend this place very highly.
Just got back from Vistanna
We just got back from a weeks stay at Vistanna beach club. The room was beautiful not shabby like stated in a previous review. We were in the older building and it looked like the room had been freshly painted, had new sheets etc. We didn't have a corner room but the balcony was huge. We enjoyed many dinners out there. They just finished the steps going to the beach the day after we got there which made it easier to get on the beach. The beach is still pretty tore up from the hurricanes last year. There were more shells than you can imagine on the beach. The water was very rough with a killer undertow so we didn't spend much time in it. My husband did fish from the beach and caught a 30 inch snook!!!
Since it was Memeorial day weekend they had alot of activities planned on Monday and they were free!! The one complaint I do have is the cost of the activites for kids. They were kindof pricey to paint a birdhouse was $10.00 ,a small wooden box 5.00 a canvas bag around 10.00. When they had ice cream social it was 3.00 for 2 scoops of ice cream and you could put whatever toppings on.The only thing is they always had the ice cream at 4:00 way to close to dinnertime.I can't imagine what it would cost a family with 2 or 3 kids to do all the activities offered. We had 4 days of rain and there wasn't much else to do. They did offer a free movie one night and one afternoon with free popcorn and drink. You could also checkout limited games and puzzles for free.ALl in all desoite the rain we had a great time. We found some wonderful restarunts too.
Tried to get a week here March 25th -April 2nd (as we have the last 2 years). But was booked up ( $289.00 per night). .. Wound up down at Pompano and glad we did. Took a drive up to look at the damage at Vistana and the place looks like the moon .. (locals say it will take years to recover.) Trees and vegetation mostly gone, boardwalk gone and beach totalled. Good news is that the new causeway is open and no waiting to get back and forth. (This maybe because there are fewer visitors.) Glad I didn't go for the time share pitch I got last year ... This place needs time and work ... !
Loved Vistana's Beach Club & the Island Location
We rented a 2br/2ba condo at Vistana's for 3 weeks on Feb.22, 2005 and we were not disappointed. The unit itself was simple but comfortable with the usual Florida decor. It was great having a washer and dryer and our balcony overlooked the pool and had a nice view of the ocean. We could check on the kids and even call out for lunch without leaving our 'mini-apartment'. It was great having coffee out on the balcony each morning and seeing the beautiful waves crashing onto shore. The beach was fabulous with lots of shells to sift through on our morning walks. The maidservice was non-intrusive and efficient and the grounds were kept very clean and orderly. The activity center was a real plus for the kids, who could join in for an afternoon movie if it was rainy out or have an ice-cream float during the ice-cream social hour which seemed to be about twice per day. The free beach towels & beach chairs each day was very convenient. Usually the chairs are rented out but after the hurricane, the boardwalk was in need of repair so the club issued the chairs free as a courtesy. Overall, we had a great time and would definitely go back again. The only thing that Vistana's could use is an internet/computer room among it's offerings. Otherwise, what you see online about Vistana's is truly what you get. Unfortunately, we couldn't go to the highly recommended Bathtub Beach due to hurricane damage but we did visit all the other area attractions and each one was fun and interesting. We recommend the Florida Oceanographic Center along with the Eco-Tour they offer and the Elliott Museum which are both close by. Hutchinson Island is a great place for families to hang out together and relax in a quiet setting. You won't find many bars or to much 'happening' here other than swimming and enjoying the beaches. Just what we wanted! Please feel free to email me with any questions. I'd be glad to answer anything I can about our Hutchinson Island vacation.
Stay away from the oceanside building
Oceanfront building consists of 2 bedroom units which are so shabby, torn and worn as to be totally unacceptable. Being right on the beach is great, listening to the surf at night and watching the sunrise over the water, but it doesn't make up for the condition that the units are in. Torn sheets and blankets, a front door that let the wind just scream with a high pitched whistle when it blew, rust in the bathrooms, only one shower, furniture that should have been replaced a lot of years ago. There was absolutely nothing about this building that was in the least bit acceptable.
This is a wonderful oceanfront place to stay. The condo's are very clean, and nicely decorated. The kitchen has everything, including a dishwasher, and the master bedroom is quite a nice size with a jacuzzi tub in the attached bathroom. The older building with balconies facing the ocean are the best. Ask for an end unit, if possible - it has a wrap-around balcony. It's a hit or miss, but you can get these 2-bdroom units for as low as $125 a night at times, and even at $150-200, it's a bargain. The Island Beach Resort located a mile or so away charges $153 for a 1 bdroom oceanfront unit, and their rooms are not nearly as nice. I recommend this highly. The only drawback is the lack of a restaurant or bar on the premises.
Quiet & Relaxing
We stayed at Vistana's Beach Club over spring break 04. The condo was well maintained and clean. It had a great view of the beach and ocean. The grounds were well maintained and very nice. The pool was small but cozy and not overcrowded. It had a very large sun deck just over the pool area. If you are looking for a nice place that is quiet and relaxing this is it. If you are looking for a spring break spot for kids, this is not what you are looking for. Hutchinson Island is mostly a retirement community and not a hot spring break spot. My kids complained that there was nothing for them to do.
Favourite place to unwind
We have stayed at the Beach Club every year for the past eight years.
It continues to be our favourite spot to unwind after the hectic pace that we experience in Orlando. The staff at the Beach Club are courteous and very helpful; the pool is great and the beach is relaxing. There are plenty of activities for both children and adults.
We prefer to stay in the older of the two units as that one has larger balconys overlooking the ocean (Check-in Friday and Sunday for the old buildind, Saturday for the new building). We have stayed on every floor in the old building and never did we have our view of the ocean obscured by bushes, in fact as far as I know, there are no rooms on the first floor! We have even been there as the tail end of a hurricane passed directly over us. Lots of rain and the beach got washed away but what an experience that was made even more of an experience by the positive and wonderful staff working at the Beach Club.
Booked over 1 year ahead, confirmed weeks before arrival that we would have an ocean-front beach view (as listed as an amenity), and confirmed again a few days before arrival.
Upon arrival, was told that our room was given to someone else and we were given a room on the 1st floor that had a view of bushes.
No explanations, no customer service ... beware !!!

Tuesday was my day off and I did some activities with Tessa and Logan. First, we went at the Round Island Park, one of the best spot to see manatees. We were on a bridge and we saw about ten manatees eating some plants. They were just under the bridge and I took my first picture with a manatee (see the pictures). The fauna is ...
Another cool windy day in store for us. We started the day by going to the grocery store to get some food for the trip home. We also made reservations for state park cabins along the route home. We had a light lunch and headed out to Bear Point Sanctuary to walk the nature trail there. This is a sanctuary for birds, fish, and ...
... we've been waiting out the end of the hurricane season (which officially ends on Nov. 30th).
Indiantown Marina and Boatyard has really surpassed our expectations on a place to be "stuck" during hurricane season. We've met so many fun people here. Indiantown itself is very small, but with it's Mexican and Guatemalan influences, what's not to love?! The food is amazing and even when we eat out, we are essentially getting a true "home cooked" meal!

In 1715 a storm caused a Spanish fleet of 11 ships to be wrecked onto these shores. 1500 people survived. A recovering effort was immediately started but professional treasure hunters still continue today to search the waters for gold, jewellery and other artefacts.
And after every storm people ...
