... Salvatore grows oranges, lemons, figs and onions and we were sent off with a bag of these when we left the next morning..... lovely hospitality. From what we saw, Calabria is like the South Coast in the 80s: sugar cane growing on the side of the road, sea sand on the road, low ugly architecture. In fairness, we didn't go to the beach, but of all the places in Italy, I wouldn't rush back there as I find it ...

... on our travels someone telling us that when dealing with Italian bureaucracy it takes so long as they tell you to keep coming back "next week"!! We got photos of the mammals flag and outside the window into the Piazza. He then described Carmen de Patagones Argentina where many Mammolese people had settled. It was only later when I wasgoing through the booklets that I saw his title and googled it. He was the Mayor of the town!! We ...

After a good sleep but on a very firm mattress we went to brekkie 8.30am. Antonio had a fruit pastry tart with coffee and I had tea. Again it was humorous to watch the idea of tea with milk being understood. That was our brekkie! Amazing. However after last nights meal we were so full anyway. We planned to head to the mountains in front of our accommodation after a walk around town to find Aunty Lisa's house. We followed our google map up very narrow, steep streets ...

Our next stop was a B&B at Le Canella Constrada Fratte II. Google maps said 4hrs 54mins and they weren't wrong. We lost some time trying to get on the right road then our journey took us through all the towns along the coast. It was like the Pacific highway 20 years ago. The seaside towns weren't as we imagined. They were very ancient and everyone has a siesta at 1pm. When we arrived near Le Canella we took a wrong turn which we thought was right and headed up into the hills. ...

... local beach near Torre Canne. We walked for about 5 km return trip to the light house. The sand was more yellow and every 50 mt there was a Lido where you could hire umbrellas, lounge chairs and listen to disco music. We stopped for gelato in the town and by the time we walked back the African hawkers had gone for siesta. Tonight we were eating alfresco with bread, cheese olives, meat cut into chunks and peppers filled with cheese and tuna. Don's Italian at ...
