    Day 47 - Split, Croatia

... this tranquil town. I couldn't have gone any further than 100 yards throughout the whole day and much of it was spent on waterfront branches and the roof patio of my hotel. I think the weather and location had something to do with it. Today was once again cloudy, but it was possibly the most calm and balanced days I've experienced in a long time. The temperature was 'just right', not cold or hot. There was zero wind, almost 'no weather'. ...

We leave the ship, again by tender, to begin our "Historic Split & Riviera" excursion at the leisurely hour of 9:00. Our tour guide takes us directly to the Palace of Diocletian, which was built in 305 BC.
Our first stop is the cellars. We then begin our tour of the inside of the palace. It is extensive and impressive. It seems that the palace is dominated by the Cathedral of St Domnius, every where ...

Unfortunately, the above-ground portions did not fair so well. As the town developed, need for both better defenses and buildings that would accommodate businesses and multiple living quarters grew. Windows were filled in, structures taken apart ...

... bed. Still home by about 1ish but with an alarm set for 8am it was not my most sensible decision. Anyway it was good to be out and about with other travellers, and I have learnt fast just how easy it is to meet people when you're travelling on your own so hopefully won't have any problems there! Saturday morning arrived after my 4 nights in Split and I made my way to the harbour to catch a ferry to Hvar. Left feeling excited (and a little hungover) to see more of this lovely ...

We now come to the end of our German/Austrian/Czech Republican/Croatian experience and after an over night ferry we're now on a train to Florence, Italy !! Yay! We are more than ready, Lonely planet in hand as always and a list of all the best eateries in Florence given to us by our home grown Florencio friend Chiara. Wish us luck and hopefully our stomachs can stretch to fit the avalanche of food coming our way!

    Ciao Ciao
