Tues. June 16. Day 12 mild to warm 27C We enjoyed our hotel suite and the breakfast provided. Checked out and drove back to Plitvice lakes, this time to walk the Upper Lakes. In 1991 this area saw the first shots and casualty of the 5 year war with Serbia and most of the residents were evacuated to coastal areas and the park was deserted for that time. Nature took over but since then, with over a million visitors each year, the paths and boardwalks have been restored ...

There were lots of choices and all were reasonably priced. We chose a little place on ...

... our way back to the Old Town, stopping along the way for a quick haircut. Our next stop would be a free walking tour of the Old Town and Diocletian's Palace that was rated the #1 thing to do in Split on Trip Advisor. In fact, the guy who ran our hostel also recommended it. We were to meet in the main square and look for the guide holding the blue umbrella. We read online their evening tours were 5:30 and 6:30. We got to the meeting point around 5:30 ...

... to the right side of the road. We arrived in about 30 minutes with several intermediate stops and walked to the "recommended" beach. We all went swimming and dried off in the sun. We then wandered back into town for lunch at a sidewalk cafe at the ocean side. We then walked around the central peninsula, with a brief stop and back into town. The Oster departed for Dubrovnik without stopping. The Johnson's and us caught a ferry boat that took us back to Dubrovnik. It also took ...
