Christmas Panto'

Went to see 'Aladdin' at the 'Opera House' in Manchester this evening. Borrowing 2 unsuspecting children for cover, we went to see a typical Panto. With bright and elaborate costumes, corny jokes that appeal to kids and adults it was an absolute scream. Best ...

End of term. 4 months in the UK

... have to wait 5-10 mins for another. It’s still a novelty to catch a double decker! At the moment my job at Chetham’s is only until Easter but I would love it if something else came up for me there but if not I’ll be looking for something else. So who knows what I’ll be doing after April.

Accommodation

Our new abode, the flat, is small. No surprises there. It has taken some time to get used to it. Hard to ...

Parky isn't it!

... at Sea Paradise, Mandrem. It was great to be welcomed by Philip, Dinesh, Nittin - Raj, Padam & the very cheeky Shesh. And time to relax by the sea... With the motorbike we could nip off to other small beaches and of course pop into town. By now the terrible damage caused by the Cyclone had been put right and all mended - only the awful postmortem of how so many fishermen who drowned had to be completed - we were led to believe around 70-80 perished..... Many warned that the ...

Day 2 - The Reamer

How could anything be worse than the Ball Breaker? How? And yet it was. Damn the kilometres of bog, damn the no bacon butty truck on the highway, damn the twisty part where you go around curve after curve after curve and don’t see anything ahead of you but CURVE. Then damn the “ ...

Most recent European tour

... La Baule, yes you guessed it the Nazi submarine pens. For the very first time on this tour we used the motorway system for a very quick dash up to Normandy and the last few days were spent exploring the D Day beaches. Arromanches was to quickly become one of our favourite stops, not least for the amazing moules and frites we had on the last night. It was sadly time to head back to Dunkirk for the ferry back over the water and on to Manchester.

... through the grocery shop to see what different things they sell and we were surprised at the huge range of Australian wines that was for sale. But in general on our travels Australian wines have been well regarded. We ended up buying some black pudding to eat on the way. Our hotel in Liverpool was good, facing Albert dock. It was drizzling rain. We met Myfin, Sain and Evette (Graham's sister and nieces) for a very enjoyable dinner over in Albert Dock.

Fun Times in Manchester

... pub - it was built in the 1500s apparently - then we went to Urbis which is AWESOME, it's free and has art exhibitions all the time. We went to the Manga exhibition which is japanese animation basically but they showed it all forms of fashion, advertising, animation, movies, books etc, we really enjoyed it. It's so cute! Also went to an Arts Centre which is in this old building off the beaten path so it's not very crowded which is nice and the building has ...

Pre departure musings - Anti-planning

... time! Well in a loose route i'm going to try my best just to follow my feet. Well 1st installment and all, hopefully someone will read this and maybe someone else will get to the second installment. I am not promising this is going to be exciting or even easy to read, but i do hope that there is someone out there who will stick with me and feel a bit of what i'm feeling throughout this journey. ... was also realistic about these friends; a few of them I would keep in touch with, but even with Facebook and instant messenger and everything else, within a few months of getting home, a vast majority of these friends would just become memories and email addresses in a journal. I figured, might as well take advantage of it while I could.

All this is a long-winded way of saying, I had less than a week and a half left in my trip and I was trying to figure out what ...

I'd rather have the money please.....

I have always liked travelling. I suppose I got the bug back in 1997 when I spent 4 months in the US and again 2002/2003 when I spent 18 months in Africa and OZ. I don't know what turns me on...is it the people or cultures you meet or the experiences and complete lack of everyday ...
