We awoke earlier than we have been used to this week to ensure we got the checking out process sorted. We walked to the Boston railway station about 20 minutes away stopping for breakfast at Starbucks on the way. The station has about 7 tracks and the only shops were a couple of Dunkin Donuts, which seem to be popular in the US and carry more than doughnuts. We were surprised that there did not appear to be a newspaper outlet ...

... So we just meandered and sat under a tree, then found a bench where I decided to lay on hubby's lap for 10 min or so (oh - we did get some rocket popsicles - soooo good in the heat...and were able to fill our bottles at the water fountains). As we were walking along...I noticed some flickering lights...fireflies! All in the greenery - it was so pretty. We do have fireflies where I live, but ...

... and then tour the city after lunch. We will be in Barcelona until Friday morning. We have a few things planned in Barcelona, but Wednesday is a national holiday (summer solstice - who knew? ... room there was one of Roosevelt's individual style wheelchairs. Outside was an enclosed porch.
There was also a bedroom where once King George VI and the Queen stayed, also Winston Churchill [but not at the same time].

Franklin loved the view from his bedroom, because he could see the Hudson, but now the trees block it out. Hanging in his closet we could see the black cloak that he wore at the Eleanor slept ...

It really is a hell of a town!

... Mid-Manhattan which was pleasantly quiet (for New York) as it was around 7am. Our first stop was the Empire State Building where we fortunately beat all the crowds because we got there so early. The view from level 86 was amazing and a great way to get our bearings on the city. Seeing it from this view gives such a great appreciation of the scale and size of New York.
We then gave into the guys harassing us on the street for the hop-on, hop-off bus, ...
