As it was Karen's birthday we decided to celebrate by doing the Bald Mountain trail, a 5 mile hike, entirely uphill with a peak elevation of 7.5k feet, approximately 2.5k feet higher than the trail head......what could possible go wrong?

... and Amy waded out to where we could float, lay back, and floated! It was very cool. Sophie said she would go back to float again sometime, but for the rest of us it was a once in a lifetime experience (and David had done it when he was 10), but definitely worth doing. It requires walking and wading through millions of brine gnats and brine shrimp, but if you can ignore that for a few minutes it's a cool experience. Definitely not a place ...

... was quite a developed town. They get the most snow of any place in Idaho and had a Smoke Jumper Base at their large FBO. We followed the Payette River down and noted the large number of rafts on the calmer parts. The bottom appeared to be unnavigable. After Cascade we turned on to the Wildlife Canyon Scenic Highway and noted signs of the Clear ...
