Happy 4th of July!

We had a great time at Pensacola Beach! We got there at 9:45am and stayed until 3pm and even with a easy up shade, rash guard wearing and 3+ sunscreen applications we all got sunburn! But it was great, the sand was white, the water was clear and great temp, good/calm conditions and everyone could walk out a ways without it being too deep. We ...

... airport. Our flight was supposed to leave at 9pm, but the storms delayed that by about 2 hours. We were so exhausted, but tried not to sleep...to no avail. Our bodies were on Madrid time so that 11pm was really 5am!!! We finally got home after midnight and it was hard to settle down, but we eventually did.

Our girls trip to Europe was amazingly wonderful ...

Forth to the Fourth Fort

... a big tip. If you are ever going to take the Mobile Bay ferry, I can recommend the meatball sandwich without hesitation.

From Fort Gaines, we drove to Gulfport, from which we will catch a ferry tomorrow to Ship Island and the last fort of the trip: Fort Massachusetts. This is the last bit of the National Seashore that we have to visit.

Spent the day in Pensacola today to visit the Fort Pickens unit of the National Seashore. This is the largest of three forts that guarded the entry into Pensacola Bay. This is directly across the narrow entry of the bay from Fort Barrancas, where we went yesterday. ... but nothing special. They had only baked oysters too and no freshly shucked raw ones. Dishes were massive in size but tasty. My oyster po-boy wasn't anything like what I ate in New Orleans but still ok. Good value meal.

Next we visited Adventure Island because I was interested in playing mini-golf however when we got there, the weather looked like it might rain so instead we played some arcade games including the old style shooting ...
