... aware of my own optimism.
Icecave picked me up from town on the Sunday evening. He had shaved his beard and I didn't even recognize him until he waved over at me. It was great to see him again. We packed a few days worth of food then headed out to the hotsprings which looked as if they had been over-run by hippies at some stage. There were dream-catchers, candles and incense comes all over the place. I loved it. The springs ran into a big river which carved through a steep ...

... sagebrush, junipers, and little lizards that scurried across our path many times. The stops we were making were starting to take a little more time than we had anticipated,so we made one more stop at the upper viewpoint of Delicate Arch before we headed out of the park. Besides seeing the arch that we had hiked up a steep hill to see, we met some other folks up there admiring the view with us. We started talking and found out that they were fellow Oregonians ...

Yesterday's drive was interesting following the Colorado river up through a canyon for 100 miles before hitting the interstate I-70 to New Castle. We went through Cisco, a ghost town that died with the steam train. 18-inch pizza at New Castle and bedding down with Mormons at Econolodge. Sunday was a driving day. We crossed the Rockies over independence Pass with ...

Our meander continued as we followed a series of scenic byways that took past several of Colorado's "fourteeners," the mountains that climb above 14,000-feet. Jack had prepared a travel binder filled with essential travel information: Best Campgrounds of Colorado, Scenic Byways (25!), Festivals and Special Events, and Wineries.

The most useful section was Scenic Byways and, as we have meandered around The Centennial State, we have ...

Sunday was perfect. We spent the morning relaxing at the condo with a yummy breakfast of omlets , pancakes, cinnamon raisin gluten free toast, fruit and turkey bacon. John is quite the chef! Mid morning was perfect for taking the saucer sleds out for a run. The girls found a small hill just outside the condo and proceeded to go up and down. I took the morning off and watched the fun from the window. There were lots of giggles and ...
