... a resort town that many Bangkok locals use as a weekend getaway from the big city. The resort we stayed at was a picturesque and quintessential vacation spot. We spent the days lounging, drinking an overall having a good time. Thanks Julie, Ang and Courtney for being so fun and taking me under your expat wings! It is so nice to have people show you the tricks and trades of traveling in SE Asia! So now I am continuing onto Koh Toa as I had previously ...

... a separate spa/bath and 'rainforest shower'. The rainforest shower head is about half a metre square and recessed into the ceiling. The ceilings are around 4 meters high so when you have a shower everything within a 4 metre radius has a shower. If someone is having a shower no-one else can use the open area bathroom. Although there is another bathroom / shower / toilet in the other wing of the villa. I say other wing as the villa consists of two separate areas that are accessed only ...

... squid. It's also know for it's pineapple and banana plantations. Stopped for late lunch by the beach at a seafood restaurant. Nice fish stir fry, very fresh. The bathrooms were a bit OTT with the flowers though. Couple of shots of the local food stores, obviously featuring their squid and bags of dried seafood. We drove back to the resort. Had an afternoon swim and a nap. Went to dinner across the road at my local Italian, Olivo. Delicious. Back to the resort, blog and bed.

... One of them, Amien, is Muslim and it is cool getting to talk to him about his point of view, especially since Middle Eastern studies was my minor. Being here and seeing their perspectives, as well as the Thai people's perspectives makes you realize how small your world can be if you don't make an effort to see things from other people's point of views.
We have a nice patio on the roof of our hotel and we all like to meet up there and hang out. We ...

King's Birthday Celebrations

... the massage tent, with prices set for locals. In here you could get a foot reflexology massage or head, neck and back massage for 45 mins for only 100 baht (which is about 2). Needless to say we went back the next day!

So all in all, the King's birthday (which also happens to be Father's Day here) brought an unexpected, yet welcome element of real Thai culture to our holiday, and it was right on our doorstep.
