In the evening we met our group leaders and fellow tourists and had dinner at the Tik Tok Diner in our hotel. The Tik Tok is open 24/7 and has great food--I highly recommend the onion rings! ... which is a lot like Rome. I'm not sure that all of them are actually homeless, or whether they make quite a good living just being out in the street with their "I am homeless and hungry" signs- maybe that is like their day job? The real homeless are not-so-seen, but sometimes they catch the bus or the subway and even if you can't see them, you can often smell them. I think America is definitely a country of haves and have-nots and although I know this is true for Australia ...
