For the two hour lesson, we spent the first bit learning the basics of standing up (which I needed a refresher on). Then Kurt, our instructor, took us out to waist deep water and held the board steady while we climbed on. After about three runs in, he showed us how to paddle and turned us loose to pick the waves for ourselves. Picking the right wave felt like ...

The topography is intriguing in the area with much volcanic activity making up some of the natural history. Beautiful vistas from long extinct volcanic craters , and the remnants of volcanic plugs visible from dozens of kms away make for an ever changing view.
