Hastings Barbados
Barbados was great (we stayed in Holetown) – fabulous weather, a fully equipped apartment near the shops, bars and restaurants, in a great location with beach frontage.
We ate well, slept a lot, lay on the white sand beach, swam and snorkelled and went to the Cropover festival. We watched the amazing procession of floats, equipped with massive speakers, churning out reggae, as young (and not so ...
... in front of them, others staff members trying to use their benefits but falling short. The customer service of the AA representatives was horrendous enough to be worthy of its own blog, but it's not one I feel like writing right now. We were all trying different options. We thought about trying from different airlines - everything is full. Different islands, everything is full. We even thought ...
Rockley, Barbados kilgiraffeThis is my third day trying to get out of the island on standby. I was 38/47 on the list earlier. So many families of staff members using their tickets for holiday.. It's insanity. It seems to be impossible to get out of the Caribbean right now! Hopefully I'll figure out something soon, otherwise I may have to cancel parts of my itinerary.. :(
Rockley, Barbados kilgiraffe... At the "top" a small side driveway went further up, to the base of some antennas. Since the first rule of route finding in climbing is "go up until you can't go up anymore," we followed it. And ended up 'neath the big towers with the sneaking suspicion that we were in the wrong place. We wandered around a bit, and correctly identified the knoll that we were actually looking for, one more ridge to the north. Unable to locate a connecting ...
Hillaby, Barbados dyer0930... The island is so beautiful with all of its tropical exotic trees and colours. One could stay here forever.
We were then driven through Holetown, where the island's first settlers landed in 1627. Upon our return, we passed in front of numerous luxury hotels and houses.
The island is purely marvelous. Our short stay here provided us with lots of memories that we will cherish forever.
Thankful for scenic drives.

Dear Blog,
"Welcome to Barbados!" as the sign said, "Island where rich tropical fields meet a glistering azure sea". Quite true! As the ship made its way through the channel, the view of the island was spectacular!!.
Barbados is 270 miles from the coast of Venezuela. The island is really small in size being 14 by 21 miles. The population however, is 279,000 and the capital is Bridgeport.

... at this time of year. It seems fairly clean and serene, a bedroom community of mostly middle-class residents, without the grinding poverty and crushing crime of some of its 'edgier' neighbors. It's also a country of religion, the Christian sort, though whether that's cause or effect of its overall liveability I couldn't say. Gospel music here rates equally with reggae and soca and hiphop in popularity and is commonly heard in ...
Bridgetown, Barbados ccheng... in. What the heck was Michael thinking? We don't know this guy. But we figured there's four of us and only one of him, so how dangerous could it be (kids, please don't try this at home). David grabbed a huge bag from the backseat of the car, which contained some sports gear (most likely for Cricket) and walked to the trunk assuming the guy would pop it so he could drop the stuff inside. No such luck. Either the guy couldn't open the trunk from ...
Bridgetown, Barbados globetrotters... bus drivers asking us if we needed a taxi. She disappeared into the buses and I kept trying to keep track of her, and finally I saw her try to hide behind a fruit stand. By now I'm the only one around her and I'm thinking "where the hell are the cops on this country??" And then she has the nerve to ask me "so you're following me?" And I just say "Yes, did you find your friend?" "No, I'm going to call her on my cell phone" "Okay, call her ...
