We made it back without incident, a miracle in itself as Briony needed the restroom on the way UP to the lookout and somehow managed to hold on until we made it to the hostel. We had a quiet dinner from a café next door to the hostel and ate it in the kitchen listening to an American and a Canadian talking about life philosophies and other ****.

Gill we walked through the leather market area and could smell the leather from all the handbags, jackets, belts etc. No sandals that I could see. Scarves are hanging on every other stall and our first, and only so far, purchase was a pink scarf for Paige! We also looked over the aprons with David on them and decided we could definitely give them a miss!

... down were a bit of a cruise except for the frequent two way traffic jams. Those stairs were not designed for crowds. At the bottom we agreed it was quite the architectural marvel for its day, but wondered why they built it? We found our way to a restaurant recommended by the hotel concierge. Joe ordered a “Famous Tuscan Florentine” steak. It was about as good as a T-bone we might order in Boise.

... repair and look great. Not a sign of decrepitude anywhere in the inner city. Piazzas, shops, hotels, churches, marketplaces, they are all still using buildings built in the medieval & renaissance era.

I think it helps that the buildings were made to last. Most of the walls are about two feet thick of stone. The stores are mostly modern, but set tastefully in these old buildings.

... Chops Grille on Friday night.
We all enjoyed a lovely Italian meal and the staff all sang us a song which was nice. Our assistant waiter Petar is always showing us little tricks and is very nice. After the meal we were just finishing our drinks when the Maître d and the waiters all came over with a small cake decorated with Happy Anniversary and then sang us a song. Petar even used the lids from the butter and sugar containers as symbols. ...
