... is beautiful. It has been raved about for centuries and the Florentines have often escaped the 10km or so up the hill to enjoy the cooler air, the vineyards, the views, the fabulous villas and all manner of other delights. There are Roman and Etruscan ruins and a garden that is meant to be wonderful. Unfortunately on the day we were there it was closed. ... the train at that point (some of us jumped, some of us limped off) to catch another train to Florence. We had a walking tour of this beautiful little town including a stop at a leather factory, Piazza del Duomo, Ponte Vecchio (the old bridge, the only remaining original bridge in Florence), and the Piazza Della Republica. ... the saving of famous art all over Europe during World War 2. After seeing some amazing art this past weekend, it became very real.

We are now home, facing massive work emails, work travel (Ken is leaving today for Pittsburgh) and freeways. But, we will have amazing memories of the Swiss Alps, Tuscan hills, wonderful travel mates and awesome travel experiences.

As they say in Italy, Arrivaderci...or, Until We Meet Again.

... by Boomer next day before setting off for Pisa.
What a surprise! Not sure what I expected in Pisa , other than a leaning tower, ( that really DOES lean) but the group of buildings including the tower, baptistry and cathedral within its grassed walled enclosure was wonderful. Could have stayed for hours, but Florence called.

... shopping but I thought all the shops were much the same and all sold the same things. Nothing caught my eye anyway, which surprised me, as it was a whole bridge filled with designer jewellery. Lots of tourists flocked this area, along with the city centre and here I really noticed that some people take the worst photos- I mean do you really need 10 thousand pictures of naked statues??
