... on the other. The island is not more that a couple hundred yards wide in places. The fort is part of the National Park System so there is no development on this part of the barrier island. It’s really pretty deserted right now.
Interesting note: The white sand is ground quartz that has was down the rivers over millennia from the Appalachian Mountains. Who knew water and time could make such beautiful sand from mountain rocks? ...

There was a large display complete with lots of pictures about the Pensacola Mardi Gras, the earliest being 1903, into the 20’s, 30’s and 50’s. There was a mannequin with the Mardi Gras costume of one of the queens. There were also 2 rooms with cases of unrelated “stuff”. It looked like a mom-and-pop antique store.
