Today was a public holiday (see yesterday's entry) and everything was closed except the cafés which were doing a great business. The sun was out for a lot of the day too.

The school kids were out in force again with their marching and drumming and having a great time. There were priests and lots of dignataries laying wreaths and then more marching and drumming through the lined streets. It was quite moving to see.

This beach is just gorgeous, and amongst the best on Naxos. Apparently the best beaches are on the west coast, and this one did not disappoint. The water is crystal clear and at such a nice temperature. We spent the day moving between the sun lounge to the water back to the sun lounge and so on and swam out for ...

... could drive up most of the 3000 feet, so I think we maybe only climbed about 1000--but I'm a bad guesser. When we set off on the journey up the mountain, we knew it was 5km (about 3 miles) up and 5km back, so I figured it'd be a nice hike for the two of us. Note that this was NOT on Knox's agenda of "things to do". While he doesn't shrink from adventure, sometimes he forgets that some of the best adventures require a little physical ...
