Travel Blogs from Panama City Beach
Never changed the alarm clock and woke up early for a breakfast. Then Coach Crawl to go through all the different units. We had a group shot photo. Then for a Soup Supper catered. Very hood homemade soup and desserts. Hung around for a little karaoke. Ate dinner with Jim and Nadine, Lester and Margaret. Pooped ...
... one of the first ones down there so we had fresh knives. We drove for 2 hours from New Orleans to Alabama..."sweet home Alabama" where we stopped at the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial park to look at a huge war ship and lots of old military planes. It was chucking it down whilst we were there so we had to be careful where we stepped so our feet didn't get soaking wet. From here we drove for about an hour to Cordova Mall in Pensacola Florida where we had an hours lunch break. Jake ...
... of the nicest state parks you can find. Our only problem was – "guess what?" it was cold.
Hunkered down for three nights in the cold, Mary and I took a few hikes around the park. When we hiked to the beach, the 2 miles of beach was empty. A beautiful beach with fine white sand and picture perfect in gulf colors. As far as you could see, no people. A nice way to be at the beach but ...
... the 24 degrees on the thermometer as well as a bit of excitement. Brrrrrr..... We sure never expected to be cruising in Florida wearing hat, scarf, gloves, boots and long underwear bouncing in four foot waves. But what the hey, we were moving and on the water and it felt glorious. As luck would have it, a huge container vessel passed beside us immediately as we left the marina but it was no big deal. While it was scary from a visual perspective (those ships are HUGE!), we ...
... off-season. I noticed a few dogs walking with their owners along the beach and was determined to break the rules when we got back to indulge Gordon in his love of beach days. Husb was a bit apprehensive but I was making it happen. We gathered our beach gear and the beast and I told him to “act natural” as we quickly (or as quickly as we could force him to walk) smuggled him onto the beach. What a perfect day it was! Not a sweaty swimsuit type of ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Sterling Splash Panama City Beach
We stayed at Splash last week and loved it. The room had everything we needed and more. Since we had went in mid April the water was still cool (expected). The kids play area was great. Even though the water was freezing, there were still plenty of kids having a blast! The lily pad area was great because it was gated in and younger kids couldn't run off. You can turn them loose and relax in the sun and not worry they might fall in a pool.
What a great place to stay!
My family ,wife , son age 10 and daughter age 8 stayed at splash from april 6 to April 13. We stayed in a Sandbar unit 2 bedroom 2 bath with bunk area.
My family and I just returned from a week (3/31-4/6) at this new complex. We stayed in the East tower and did not experience any construction problems. We did not see any construction equipment/
We just came back from Splash last week. We stayed with another couple in a windsong unit with 5 kids. I saw the other bad reviews and was shocked since we had just a fun time. Our unit was on the 7th floor and we had both master bedrooms on the ocean. We stayed the week of april 1 - 7th. All the pools were working and were very clean. In fact every morning we went out they were cleaning the pools before they opened.
*** RENTERS BEWARE*** Make sure you have the unit # on your confirmation sheet! We recently booked a unit through VRBO - #119210. It was represented that we were renting the 18th floor unit with 3 bedrooms, 2 of which were facing the gulf. When we arrived, we were told that the 18th Floor unit had been rented to someone else, and ALL they had available was a first floor unit, with only one bedroom facing the gulf. We were offered a refund, but at that point where were we to go? We contacted the supposed owner of the unit, and he said he was just a "Travel Agent" and he never promised us any specific unit (even though we had conversations regarding "his" unit and the contents of it). The Front Desk manager was very nice, but had no power to remedy the matter. She was not even empowered to adjust our rate. We were duped into paying a premium for the 18th floor unit and received the value of less than half of what we paid! To top it off, literally, we were directly above the acclaimed arcade and water park which kept us awake into the wee hours. In addition, we were 20 feet from the garbage shoot, and the unit next door was still under construction. In fact, so was the unit we were in. There were 5 construction isses that we had to wait around for (during our vacation) to allow access to the unit within the first 72 hours of our stay. This VRBO #119210 site owner also misrepresents that the complex is complete - not true. The units around us were under construction; there were 20 to 30 minute waits for elevators as appliances and construction materials were loaded into the only elevators to take you to the upper floors; the lobby was being painted and drywalled; the pool bar was not complete or operational; the arcade took money from the kids and did not provide the games and/or prizes and contractors/furniture deliverymen/appliance deliverymen were everywhere. In addition, the place was poorly maintained. The second time my 2 year old showed me a cigarette butt in the pool (even after requesting the pool be cleaned) one of the other guests next to us decided to clean the pool herself of the cigarettes and the popcorn that had been floating for 3 days. These units provide the value of $99/night units, not the $249 they charged us!
We just stayed at this resort , and we have been staying in pcb for over 20 years now and this was the worst vacation we have ever had .We dont even want to go back. This is a list of problems we had locked out of our room for 3 hours one night because the door handle fell apart, we had to use a crow bar to get out, dishwaher had to be worked on 3 times, dryer didnt work very well,no dive-in movie pool as advertised, no miniature golf as advertised, not allowed to rent movies at resort because we rented from an owner and not thru sterling, door on fitness center could not be opened unless you were really strong, front deask is a joke, construction going on every where , moving of furniture all day, bowling alley broke every time it got used, electric was out for part of a day,no t.v. signal for parts of 2 days, aquatic rentals on the beach almost ran over people one day at the beach with their truck, no phones, no bar and grill open, pools closed off and on.I dont care if it is new, it was not ready to open and we feel like we were ripped off because of this, we are so glad to be back home.I cried several times because of this terrible place. Also teens were sneaking in to the pools.Dont stay there if y9ou want a vacation stay somewhere else.
When I arrived with my family at the Sterling Splash Resort we were very pleasantly surprised. Our unit (weekly rented condo) was beautiful. It was tastefully decorated and had all the conveniences we were expecting plus a few we hadn't. Not to mention the 3 flat screen TV's! The pool area was great with 3 pools (2 heated) a large splash area for kids and a small splash area for toddlers, all next to the beach.
Not ready for guests!
Splash is not ready for guests to stay here yet. The pools are not all open, the snack bar near the pool is not open, the phones do not work, and the staff does not seem to care. It is still under a lot of construction, lots of noise and lots of "dust". Maybe in a year it will be ready, but right now, I would stay someplace else. We were very disappointed for the price we had to pay. Calypso is down the street, and looks beautiful!
Once this place is finished, it will be awesome!!! But, we went for a long weekend and the kids' water park was not working/not complete, the pools were not all heated, and there was work equipment and caution tape all over. We drove 6 hours to get there and were never once told upon booking that it was not all complete. The elevators were only sometimes working, and we were staying up high, so that was a problem. Management was great, however, and we switched to another hotel after one night and got a refund for our unused night.
