... br> And if that wasn't enough, they also get free water (which is amazing because buying bottled water costs more than gas), free electricity, and several other "free items" for bountiful living as well. The rub is, these freebies are just for Qatari citizens. If you are a foreign worker, you are paying for your utilities and paying taxes and such. Gosh, who has ever heard of such a thing.
Mentioned that I have not met many Qataris but ...

Doha, Qatar gledipinnar... is removed from the listing. Yes, I was that bored.

I also discovered another Sheik type - remember on the way out, this amused me? Well, I hadn't seen the 'Ipod variety' yet! Again, sorry, but photos for my head, I didn't want to be rude / get in trouble for taking any photos, but I thought they were very cool!

And that's it for this time...hope you enjoyed!!
Doha, Qatar kathryn77... was a dining table with six chairs that I’ve since moved into the living room (with the loveseat now in the former dining room). Each of the other two bedrooms has a mattress on platform type beds, two night stands and a dresser and mirror. Each of the three bedrooms has two large built in closets but I still dragged both dressers into the master bedroom. I probably could have managed but the extra storage is nice. The kitchen, at 9.5’ x 6’ ...
Doha, Qatar beyondwpg... his dad's altimeter watch so we could see how high we climbed. To Fleur for having the shortest legs imaginable, at least in a goofy picture of her jumping at Thorong La. To Siobhan for her snickers addiction (and subsequent photo at the top of Thorong La). To Sabrina for taking a horse over the top of the pass. And to Sean for telling us for a week and a half about how we would all get an oxygenated high as we decended from the ...
Doha, Qatar jimmyandkristen... this morning at 0500 so check-in was a breeze. We crashed for a nap and woke when the sun peeked in the windows. WOW what a city! It's all new, up and coming. With Dubai as it's neighbor it has some catching up to do and lots of money to do it with. Our hotel is next to a mosque and the call to prayer sounds over a loud speaker. Actually all the mosques in town have the same announcement at the same time so the whole city can hear the ...
Doha, Qatar 2knightsabroadSo from Asia, to all the way down to South Africa, this long distance consisted of two 8 hour+ flights, with an 8 hour layover in the Middle East, in the small country of Qatar in the city of Doha, which borders Saudi Arabia. Our airline gave us a hotel with lunch included for the afternoon since we had such a long layover. It is very hot and dry desert, pretty much anywhere you look ...
Doha, Qatar reneedar... to Doha for work. One of the big downsides from his perspectives was that there is a very limited entertainment scene in the city and also being an unmarried man he wouldn't be able to entertain or date any ladies. The city guide only has restaurants and places to shop, not even movie theaters are listed! We went to the "hippest" club in the city, at one of the other hotels with him, and that was quite an experience. It certainly wouldn't last very long in the ...
Doha, Qatar thomasmbSo yesterday I was still feeling pretty marginal, and after about an hour of pondering in the steamy internet cafe, I wrote the "buy a plane ticket home" email to my parents. It was a little challenging with the time difference, but we eventually connected (sparked by an email from my dad to the US Embassy that I was cc'd on trying to track me down) and they got the ticket. I had second thoughts that evening, and woke the hostel owner up at ...
Doha, Qatar ebolaben... between the two cities) I was a bit surprised to find that Doha Airport is a bit old fashioned .. It does not have anyboarding bridges and uses bus to pick and drop passangers between the plan and tarminal building. We passed through the immigration quite easily and was waiting for my bag at the belts. I noticed the "Lost and Found" buth at a corner of the lounge. I did not put much notice on it then but if I knew how many times I have to refer to it in ...
