Ha, Ha Nội, Vietnam sejourgolfingay... night I was so tired I had some dinner and a couple beers, did some reading and called it a night. Today I am planning on walking around the city some more, and possibly taking a night train back to Hanoi, where I can start working my way down to south Vietnam.<br> All in all, Sapa is a great place to visit. The weather, people, and scenery are incredible. I am glad I made the trip up here that so many people passed on.
Sapa, Vietnam erictelander... it seems that the cartoon characters Tom and Jerry are a huge hit here – I see this cartoon playing almost everywhere I’m walking especially in electronics stores that have flat screens on and sometimes in taxi’s. I asked a taxi driver why T&J and he said something that sounded like boo-on coo-oi. When I translated that back as best as I could to a VN teacher at school she said it meant “funny”. Speaking ...

We couldn’t communicate and it was only at the end that her mother came up to us and said we should buy something as she had followed us a long way. How guilty did we feel!? They remained unconvinced when we said we had no money. All in all it meant we finished the walk feeling annoyed , partly with the locals, but mainly with our guide. Had he told us what to expect, we could have saved some money for the second ...
Hanoi, Vietnam tobszanni... the cab, slamming the door. He had to go get change from another cab driver because he couldn't make the change. THAT was the reason for the hissy fit -- all because he was too lazy to make correct change and would rather cheat us than hold to his word. So of course upon receiving our change we threw a few obscure-sounding American cuss words his way and slammed our doors as well. And that was our run-in with the cheating cab driver of Hanoi. Good riddance!
Hanoi, Vietnam sarahandhanan... not a motorbike, nothing. Mmmmm we thought, again, let's just ride along a bit and see what happens, maybe a truck will come along, or a taxi. We were tired because by now it's our 4th day of hard riding, so the thought of having to do another 50 wasn't funny, in any case the sun goes down at 6.30, so it wasn't even possible. That's when we started looking for somewhere to sleep for the night. We stopped in one village and asked about guest houses and ...
