It’s also a museum and has been kept exactly as it was when he and his wife Gala lived there. I couldn’t miss the opportunity being this close so I went there. I found the tourist info who told me the museum was full for the day but I could go there and buy a ticket for tomorrow, which I did. It was a very ...

... higher and higher and looked down on Luchon we could see paragliders and about 6 or 7 gliders operating in the valley. I don't know how they avoid each other as they seemed very close and Luchon is in a very steep sided valley. ... were stretches at 5%, most of the climb was at 7% or 8%. To add insult to injury, the descent had great patches of loose gravel, some of which was very difficult to see as we moved from shade to sun. Peter let it go, and scared himself quite dramatically. Lori and I just about used up all of our brake pads keeping the speed way down. We are going to have dinner here tonight, which will involve lots of discussion of possible "alternate routes" for tomorrow's ...

DAY 8/June 21: Les, Spain to Oust

A travel blog entry by timsparling on Jun 21, 2015

... obviously a couple guys there doing support for a group of their customers.

A couple hundred metres up the road was the plaque in the wall where Fabio Casartelli died, followed shortly by the marble monument in his memory.

The lower part of the climb to Col de Portet d'Aspet was, despite being steep, fairly pleasant. There was plenty of tree cover to provide shade on a hot day and the road was lined with stone walls. Then ...
