4.31pm - Here It Goes Again

... I have to pee. Still, I am once again being the world’s worst traveller and flying business class, so I get to explore another airport lounge, which is always fun. Although it’s just occurred to me I have brought nothing LIKE enough books to survive for a month. I hope this library they’ve got on the boat is a proper one, I may be holing up in there quite a bit. And I can pick something up at Smiths at the airport. Not that I really need ...

OVERALL SUMMARY & REFLECTIONS OF TTW 2008/2009

... it will be scary and daunting, but I truly believe my year away, especially that time spend with ex JS techies in Coles has made me a far more knowledgeable and capable food technologist than I would have been if I had started back in September 2008. I have no doubt I will draw on my experiences and learning from this year in my new job and I look forward to it!

I’m also really looking forward to London life, starting in Hayes, Middlesex, with a ...

... s meeting.
From there it was north up Bond Street (more Monopoly board stuff) past the jewellery shops. Didn't find anything we liked in Tiffany's (of course) but parked outside was a brand new Rolls with a waiting chauffeur and Arabic license plates. Next was Fortnum and Mason's – a confectionery shopper's paradise. I think you would need a PhD in window dressing to work there.
Finally found a suit for Jane in a Myer-like store ...

London Politics - past and present

Thursday was round two of "London Pass," so we again jammed as much as we could into one day. Most of what we saw today dealt with London politics, hence the title of this post. We began at the Banqueting House, across the street from 10 Downing Street, which is well-known for the site of Charles I's execution. However, it was also part of Whitehall Palace, which was the royal residence after Henry VIII moved it from the Houses of Parliament site. Whitehall burned ...

Day 1 Kyleakin to Heathrow

... Scot Am had beat me to them. We made our way out to the Airport and parked up. We met Anne there; she was on her way up to do some training in Shetland. I thought making jokes about a small plane and strong winds may put her off after her helter skelter trip to Stornoway . I had already booked in online so handed in our bags, had coffee and our Tesco sandwich and went through Security. We both had our carry-on bags searched but at least no ...

I've been to...

Well, first off, don't take your kids or your Mother with you. That is some golden advice. We stayed 2 weeks, and pretty much pistol whipped London. However, we only left London's limits twice. Once to go to Windsor and once to go to Bath and Salisbury and Stonehenge. By far, my favorite part of this trip was Bath. It is breathtaking. When I go back to England, I will make Bath my center of operations. Not London. London had a vague smell ...

Not so super sunday, plus monday till now!

... the crow flies may be only a mile or so from Maida Vale. As the car drives in L-town, however, it takes about 20 minutes. Arriving at our destination, we were amazed to see that the four lads had a place palatial by london standards, a big living room and dining room with a huge kitchen. 4 bedrooms upstairs for the fellows, and a bath and a half. The world of high finance has been treating them well, apparently. A flat-screen tv and sky sports, and we were on our way once kickoff came ...

... was it because he had just lost the city of Bologna? Who knows. Doesn't matter. Raphael made this man literally look like he was sitting next you in the wall, a painting with vibrant greens and reds that made me think of Christmas. Moving on, and after looking at countless other works, we stopped again in front of Boticelli's "Venus and Mars" (1485). This glorious work by Botticelli, probably made to go above some lucky ...

... we will get it taken care of. After a rather long appointment, he ws swamped, we headed back to the house where I put my bags together and put everything away in my room before running downstairs and in the process of trying to get my suitcase out the door also breaking off a wheel. NOT GOOD! Mom insisted that we run to target and get another suitcase which put us behind schedule but was definately needed, although I was more than willing to try ...
