The area is quite different to I imagined; not that I can think now what I imagined. The first thing that struck me driving in the bus from the Dalaman airport to Marmaris, is how quiet it is (especially after Asia). The towns, roads etc. were empty of people. The countryside is ...

The Italians took over the Island in 1912 and Mussolini restored much of the architecture. Eventually Rodos was handed back to Greece in 1948. Phew! A bit of a potted history! All in all I hugely enjoyed my time spent in Mugla. It is a small city with no tourists, however this gives you the chance to really explore the Turkish culture.

... is a small town on the end of the peninsula. I was met by my host who took me to a beautiful farm just outside the main town. Turkey is exceptionally dry and they have few days of rainfall each year; the temperatures can be extremely high. I only arrived at the end of August, but even then temperatures peaked at 43 degrees!
