I came back the same way, and around the evening was back in the centre. I did not get back to the hostel immediately, I was advised to wait until dusk, and see the bats fly out.

Dry and well rested and armed with a local map we drove into the centre of Port Macquarie it was overcast but not raining. We had breakfast at Winkles cafe which was overpriced and rubbish, we appreciate the comments in Lonely Planet that it is best to cater for yourself in Port Macquarie as everything is either poor value or inedible!
