I would like to say we had a good nights sleep on the Queen Mary but after a later than usual bedtime we were wakened at 00.15 by a ladies voice through the tannoy saying that there was smoke on our deck and we should evacuate! Thankfully it was a false alarm, but our sleep was disturbed (the champagne did not help). After a leisurely breakfast in the Promenade Cafe, we decided to do the audio tour but of course could not do this till 10am! We saw a wee man on board wearing an 'aye' ...

We leave at 10.30 and head to the harbour area, passing the airport and also the old Boeing building, where in WW2 they used to make the B17 bombers in massive numbers out of this enormous factory. ... saying that, they got off at Monterey airport so that was a lot of shuffling of bikes & bags. There was a guy on there from Encinitas that we had met at Union station, he was there to scuba dive - he had a real lot to say about he's rides as he'd done long rides for triathlons.
