First stop was the bike shop for some front panniers. The weight on my back wheel was crazy - I was doing wheelies up most of the hills. The whole purchasing and installation took a while but the old guy in the shop was very helpful to the extent that he had to spend a good 15 mins filing down the front racks... This all meant that our cycle round the island had a late start and given the hills, we ended up at our waterside campsite at sunset and were pitching our tent for the first time ...

We had a relaxing morning at home and began carving our NZ pumpkin. We had heaps of fun cutting the top out of it and digging all the guts out. Sarah was the lucky one who got to separated the seeds from all the gunk so we could roast them later. Today we drove north to Anacortes Harbor, almost to Canada, and took the ferry to Friday Harbor which is on one of the San Juan Islands. Then we took a whale watching cruise with a company called Western Prince, and got to see orcas in the wild. It was a transient group that they believed had killed a minke whale.
