... people gyrated (I suppose it was dancing?) in colourful costumes – or rather accessories! All to celebrate the end of the sugar cane harvest and the success of the rum production!

On one day we hired a car and explored the island – marvelling at the ferocious seas of the Atlantic at Animal Flower caves and Bathsheba compared to our gently lapping, clear, warm, blue waters on the west coast ...

... in front of them, others staff members trying to use their benefits but falling short. The customer service of the AA representatives was horrendous enough to be worthy of its own blog, but it's not one I feel like writing right now. We were all trying different options. We thought about trying from different airlines - everything is full. Different islands, everything is full. We even thought ...

Stuck.

This is my third day trying to get out of the island on standby. I was 38/47 on the list earlier. So many families of staff members using their tickets for holiday.. It's insanity. It seems to be impossible to get out of the Caribbean right now! Hopefully I'll figure out something soon, otherwise I may have to cancel parts of my itinerary.. :(

Let's go for a drive!

... and I snuck onto part of the resort to take some pictures from a random bridge leading to the entrance. I drove down the main road a lot earlier in summer, but the view from the windscreen was nothing like the view from up there! Best view of the west coast in my opinion, with the green courses rolling for miles either side :) We then hit the surprisingly picturesque main highway back down to the south coast, our starting point. We contemplated a quick drive through ...

Barbados: Coast to Coast Scenic drive

... The island is so beautiful with all of its tropical exotic trees and colours. One could stay here forever.

We were then driven through Holetown, where the island's first settlers landed in 1627. Upon our return, we passed in front of numerous luxury hotels and houses.

The island is purely marvelous. Our short stay here provided us with lots of memories that we will cherish forever.

Thankful for scenic drives.

Barbados: Sea Turtle & shipwreck snorkel

... huge sea turtles swimming one next to the other one in their environment. What a beautiful scene! Too bad I couln't take any pictures, my camera not being waterproof. Small coloured fishes could also be seen next to some huge yellow angelfish. Here I was, in the Caribbean Sea snorkeling. I was this little (well not so little) fish swimming in this huge aquarium. It was a dream come true. It was magic ...

Discovering Bridgetown

... to our hotel, and as soon as we walked into the terminal building, a torrential downpour drenched the streets and sidewalks outside. During our 20-minute wait, we bought a few snacks from the vending machine, a package of bread for dinner and then boarded the bus for our home away from home, thankful that the rain had subsided. Dinner tonight was baked, barbecued chicken, and leftover side dishes from previous nights. We haven't let anything go to waste. Our grocery ...

First encounter with the Bajan criminal world...

... PM. Tired, I give up on looking for veggies and now we're just looking to find some water. We ask a vendor where we might find a bottle of water, and she points us to the nearby supermarket. We all go in, John buys some food, I buy some pasta, and Sean buys some water. As I'm in line, I see the cashier at the next checkstand pick up a wallet and ask a woman in some horrific blue vest and pants set if it is hers. At this point I'm just trying to ...
