... around the edge of the lake. Because of the stillness of the water and the brilliant blue sky, the water is like a mirror, reflecting perfectly the hills and ridges surrounding it.

Then after packing up the tent, still wet from warmed up frost from the freezing night before, I set off on the trail again. Fairly soon I come to the first river ford. I had heard that there are several rivers to cross on this trail that have no bridge and require a hiker ...

... time. We arrive at the next hut, Hraffntinusker, at about the same time, in around four hours. This hut is in a beautiful setting, with mountains all around, but the campsite does not look too inviting, as it is in a very exposed location. The walls of rocks other campers have built around their pitch sites also testify to how windy it can probably be up here. As it is still early in the day and there is plenty of time to get to the next campsite, we decide ...

I am a little apprehensive about that as I will be camping in Landmannalaugar tonight, and I have heard how strong the winds can be there if the weather turns bad. ... in and out of the boat wake - as good as any theme park ride I've ever been on. Eventually we had to head back, with the sun shining and the cold beers out we cut across the lake back to the marina.

It had been an amazing afternoon - a highlight of the trip. We decided to drive back around the south end of the lake so that we could view Emerald Bay from the top. As we drove towards Emerald Bay the road goes along a ridge with steep descents on either side to Cascade Lake ...

Today we decided to ride our motorcycle to Truckee, CA. Our first stop was to hike down to to Vikingsholm, a home built to emulate a Viking home in Scandinavia. It was completed in September 1929. There are even sod roofs growing on the two wings of the house. This stunning creation overlooks Emerald Bay on Lake Tahoe. The gorgeous colors of blue and green reflecting on the water are amazing and there's a lovely sandy beach inviting ...
