At our last ride together (Aug. 1st) in Sacramento, Bob, Dick and I decided that we should do a practice ride to check out our bikes and touring equipment. Tahoe seemed the logical choice because it is a lot cooler in the mountains but unfortunately there is a lot less oxygen as well. We met at my house ( elev. 6500 ft) and took a route I planned that would be ...

Four weeks! It's hard to believe that we have been in the States for four weeks. So much has happened, it feels like a lot longer. And yet time has flown by so fast that it feels like yesterday that we landed in New York. It rained most of the day today and we spent the day holed up in our cabin - Lake Tahoe is very much an outdoors kind of place. Unfortunately, that means there is little to report today. Ummm... So with shampoo still in ...

... end destination of Lake Tahoe. This lies on the border between California and Nevada. We stayed in a nice little camp in Nevada and ventured down to the lake for a quick look, with the mist descending it made the lake look like a small sea with other lands shrouded in the distance. A quick drink in the lodge by the lake (which produces a lovely porter) before heading back to camp so that Matt could cook Ratatouille for the ...

... this area is know for river rafting as well as hiking and biking. Truckee was an interesting old western town built on the transcontinental railway. We checked out the train station and apparently there's a passenger train that still goes all the way from Sacramento to Chicago. If you take this train, you can only go one way and must stay the night before returning to your original destination. On the way home, we stopped in ...
