Living the Aussie Dream!

... for by the government. I think it’s fair to say we all hate door to door sales people but I was willing to sell my soul for a few Aussie dollars. When you take on this type of work you are overawed by the amount of money you can earn, sometimes into $1000 a week. The reality however is that you knock on over 100 doors a day of which 95% will not be interested so at best you will probably get 5 sales in a day, but that would be a good day and it’s not uncommon to get none! Now ...

Brisbane / Gold Coast

... aussie!) was filled with about 12 people. I was sitting in the front row with this asian man in his 40’s… he really didn’t know what he was getting himself into and was holding on to his camera and cell phone in his hand… and was wearing white shorts! After the first crazy 360 the driver did, we all got literally drenched and the little asian guy was freaking out, hilarious! I got smashed around the side of the boat pretty hard though, and I have crazy bruises ...

Leaving Australia

... at an exchange rate of £1.84/£1 (£13,500). The net gain would offset the cost of maintenance so a true figure for devaluation should finish up at £1800 or just 15%.

We checked into a city centre hotel so to easily reach the airport early on the 30th to fly to Auckland. It was a relief to go after all the uncertainty of the last month but I was suprised on feeling sad to leave Australia.

Planning - Aiming for the sun

... has really, (really) put me off. Columbia even with its notorious Guerilla war is safer.

The other alteration tour plan is due to the weather. Our arrival dates coincide with winter in South America and we have now decided that we need to be up near the equator where its hotter this time of year. I've read too many blogs about shivering trekkers, with mittens and several layers of clothing. It will be very cold down south to start with, so after Buenos Aires we are heading for sun!

Maybe I Should Have Followed The Thai Stewardesses

... Dennis' alleged full bodied front roll technique to catch roaches, and his economic recovery plan centered around a government-financed sniper shooting at cars on the highway. If it's not immediately obvious (which it wasn't to us), the bullets would cause accidents, which would require tow trucks, emergency personnel, health costs, and car repairs...all items that would get the money flowing...the economic crisis solved with a few bullets! Just to ...

2.35pm - Room With A View

... a grill open to the air. The slats in the grill are so small that a mosquito would have more trouble getting in than a person would falling out, which isn't helpful for pictures, but I guess it does cut down on lawsuits in this litigious age. Not to mention the unfortunates below who end up with some idiot splattered across their car. Another fun thing I visited was the Wax Museum. I'm a sucker for a waxworks place, I dragged ...

Tropical Tempests

... To be honest after a while the river just looks the same the whole way down. The endless corps of Chinese people approaching me with Cameras to take pictures of them infront of the river, and that big tree over there and this leaf made me move through the stops quickly. At the second last stop down there was a toilet and nature was calling. I stood at the urinal and was half way through the business and I looked up to see a spider the size of my hand ...

... much, however we have vowed to never have Christmas dinner on plastic plates again! And Ashlee was quite appalled when she couldn't live up to her Christmas nickname - 3puddings Clarke (they watch you like a hawk) altho we did manage to steal another serving of turkey (Well its Christmas, you can't have just ONE serving!) For the evening, we headed down to our ...

Phase 5: Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary

... I don’t suppose it would have been as much of an issue if we didn’t have to hear it for 90 minutes…each way.

Upon arriving at Lone Pine we found ourselves in a petting zoo complex, with kangaroos, wallabies and emus all around us. I bought a bag of feed and enjoyed the wallabies following me around for a bit. They seem to be very good-natured and were more fun than their larger kangaroo cousins. After the bag was cashed we walked ...
