    ... silver and indian jewelry for many generations, they all speak decent Navajo. He grew up around here and prospecs as a hobby still. He won awards in the 70s for his mineral collections. It seemend like the indians were business partners to him and he described how in the 1950s they all used to meet on Saturdays and the indians came to town being pulled by horses on large carts with rubber wheels...novel after The War when they could use rubber again. From here we took the 4 wheel drive Ophir Mountain Pass road which is only open a few months of the year and whoh it was scary being very narrow, rough & steep in most parts.     ... period. The entrance building was part of the reconstructed 1892 Caledonian Mine Boarding House. We toured the old Sheriff's office, complete with jail. As you can see, John was having a hard time lifting the ball and chain that was in one of the cells. It doesn't look like a great place to spend a lot of time to say the least!
