Technically we should be in Guillestre this evening, but the nearest accommodation we could book is just up the road from there, in a small village called Risoul. Unlike yesterday, the weather was gloriously sunny today, so it was nice just to wander the steep avenues of the fortified town and take in the atmosphere of the place. ... to get a lot colder nearer the top, and we had to get our jackets on while we were still climbing. About 1 km from the top, cars have an option to take a tunnel through the mountain rather than going over the pass - it's not an option for bikes! That final ascent is really hard, especially in the rain. The gradient increases and, well, we were pretty tired by then.
