... reasonable gradient as it left St Michel behind.
The descents were frightening and bloody cold, especially from the top of Col de Beau Plan with visibility at about five metres above 1000m. It was a bit of a shock when a deer darted out in front of me. I had my full winter gear on and it was barely enough.
We are off for dinner soon in St Michel then tomorrow two TDF climbs are on the agenda.
We just finished the tour du Mont Blanc - 180km, 3 countries, 9 days! Also some sore feet by the end...
actually it was probably some of the nicest hiking we have ever done - stayed in some lovely hotels and mountain refuges, ate amazing food each day, good wine each night!

Today the plan was to ride three or four cols, well that was the plan, the weather had other ideas.
I set off at 5.30am with just a light drizzle and if you have seen today's stage of the TDF you would know it became progressively worse.
I made it to Thones climbing the Col De Bluffy however by then I was soaked through. My rain booties and gloves had given up and became water capsules, I couldn't warm up and still had to climb over 1400 metres.
The Alps beat me ...
... The pics will tell you the story, simply breathtaking. Even the "step into the void" with its 1000m fall below held no fears.
We stopped for a coffee at 2000 odd metres where their is a coffee shop complete with Donkeys,
After our descent we toured around the picture postcard perfect town of Chamonix ...
... the wait as the food was great. Connie and I both had big salad plates (yeah!) followed by a steak for Connie and fish & chips for me. We were almost too full for dessert, so we shared a sample platter that included Crème brûlée, Tartufo, home made icecream, and a pudding, all of which were fabulous.
By now it was almost 10pm and tomorrow it would be back to the climbing, so we took our short stroll back to the hotel and called it a night.
